Prosecutors said although Teresa Lewis only had an IQ of 70, she was culpable for the murder of her husband and stepson.

Lewis was found guilty of masterminding a plot to murder the two men in 2002, even though her two accomplices were the ones who pulled the trigger. She bought the guns used in the crime and left the door of her trailer home open for the murderers to enter, and then stood by as her husband and stepson were gunned down. Lewis and the gunmen wanted to collect on their life insurance policies. Her accomplices received life imprisonment. Her lawyers argued in vain that she was borderline retarded and not responsible for her actions. Her case sparked international outcry, and was mentioned by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in his speech to the UN this week as evidence of U.S. immorality. Lewis died of lethal injection at 9:13 pm yesterday.
