Following in the footsteps of conservative host Glenn Beck, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert say they’ll march on the National Mall.
Late night fake newsmen Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert announced on their respective programs that they will hold competing rallies in Washington on October 30. Both had been priming viewers for a big announcement for days, mimicking conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s one-man hype machine. Beck held a controversial “Restoring Honor” rally on the National Mall on August 28. Stewart says his will be a “Rally to Restore Sanity” at which he will urge citizens to “Take it down a notch for America.” Colbert’s counter-rally is dubbed “Keep Fear Alive.” It’s unclear as yet to what extent the pair are joking, but Stewart assured his viewers “the forms have been filled out, the cheques have been written.”
