Dissident Republicans backed by Sarah Palin have scored another victory in the primaries.
Sarah O’Donnell, a former abstinence counselor who secured the endorsement of Sarah Palin, has won the Republican primary in Delaware. The primary determines who will run for Senate on the Republican ticket in the mid-term elections in November. O’Donnell defeated veteran moderate Michael Castle, underscoring the conservative Tea Party movement’s recent success in shifting the party even more towards the right. The Republican establishment did everything in their power to prevent O’Donnell from winning, fearing that she is too radical to defeat any Democrat in a general election. Analysts say her victory dents the Republicans’ push to win back a majority in the Senate in November.
