Four refugee claimants were granted release yesterday, but late last night the federal government appealed three of the decisions.
On Monday the first of the 492 Tamil migrants who arrived in B.C. aboard the MV Sun Sea in August was ordered released from detention. The woman was pregnant and was let go in order to care for her three children, who were also in detention. Yesterday four more migrants were ordered released, but late last night the federal government filed an appeal against three of them and a federal judge stayed their release. All three migrants are mothers. It is unclear if the government will also move to stay the release of the fourth migrant, who is a single woman.
