Ottawa was warned of Tamil migrants months ago

In January Canadian diplomats predicted a “perfect storm” of factors would make Canada a prime destination for migrants.
The Canadian government appears to have done little in response to an internal report filed by Canadian diplomats in Sri Lanka in January that warned human smugglers would likely be bringing more migrants to Canadian shores. The report said stress factors in the wake of the end of the 26-year old Sri Lankan civil war would result in Tamils seeking refuge here. Despite the warnings, the government is only now aggressively developing policies to deal with migrants. Nearly 500 Tamil migrants arrived in British Columbia in August. Critics are saying the government should have expedited the implementation of a newly approved refugee process, which would ensure claimants are processed faster.
