Mohammadi Ashtiani was convicted in 2006 of committing adultery.
The family of an Iranian woman facing death by stoning fears that her execution could occur within a matter of days. Executions are usually suspended in Iran during Ramadan, but the Muslim holy month ends on Thursday. Relatives have not been allowed to visit Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani for weeks and she recently received 99 lashes as punishment for a photograph published in a London newspaper that showed her without her headscarf. The photo turned out to be of another woman. Politicians and human rights activists around the world have urged the Iranian government to spare Ashtiani, who was first accused of adultery and later complicity in the murder of her husband.
