Palestinian and Israeli leaders say talks in Washington are just the beginning.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu have left peace talks in Washington vowing to continue negotiations. Abbas and Netanyahu announced at the White House yesterday they would hold more talks in on September 14 and 15 somewhere in the Middle East, and will be joined by American Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. It’s a glimmer of hope in the 60-year-old conflict, but there appears to have been no substantial movement on key issues like the continued building of Israeli settlements on disputed Palestinian territory.
