The Liberal leader says the NDP can either side with the police of the Conservatives.
Michael Ignatieff fired a shot across the bow of the NDP Tuesday over the controversial long-gun registry. Speaking on the opening day of the Liberal caucus summer retreat in Cape Breton, Ignatieff urged Jack Layton to make sure all his NDP MPs vote against a Conservative bill that would kill the registry, which police say is effective in fighting crime but Conservatives condemn as a costly waste. Ignatieff has indicated he will compel all his party members to vote against the bill, but 12 NDP members from rural ridings are expected to vote with the Conservatives. The gun registry is extremely unpopular in rural parts of the country.
