Nothing was done to stop a sexual encounter between two women, one of whom may have been HIV-positive
An investigation has been launched into the conduct of four officers and three civilian staff at the Kamloops, B.C. RCMP detachment who are believed to have looked on as two female inmates engaged in sexual acts. One of the women is also under investigation, prompting speculation that she may be HIV-positive. Police are obliged to investigate anyone carrying HIV who engages in sexual acts without disclosing their status to their partner. Staff reportedly watched the encounter over closed-circuit television for at least seven minutes without taking action, and the officers are being investigated for violating both criminal law and the RCMP code of conduct.
