A man police believe was involved in a homegrown bomb plot has so far only been charged with domestic assault.
The RCMP says a 20-year-old man arrested in Ottawa last week is the focus of a larger terrorism investigation, but he remains in custody today having only been charged with domestic assault. The man, who is a Canadian citizen born in Iraq, was arrested on Friday morning on his way to work. Police seem determined to detain the man. On Saturday he was granted bail, only to be re-arrested 10 minutes later on more assault charges. Security expert Michel Juneau-Katsuya, formerly of CSIS and the RCMP, says the police are likely using the charges to buy time in order to build a stronger case against him on terrorism charges.
