The Liberals aren’t eager to bring down the government once Parliament resumes next month
Despite his summer-long campaign-style bus tour of Canada, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff says he’s not planning to make a run for Stephen Harper’s job quite yet. Speaking to reporters en route to his party’s summer caucus meeting in Cape Breton, N.S., Ignatieff played down speculation that the opposition could topple Harper’s minority government and said instead that he’ll use the feedback he’s gotten from Canadians this summer to develop new policies. Last year the Liberal caucus was divided at their summer meeting on whether to force an election, but this year there is little talk of doing so despite a substantial increase in Liberal popularity since then.
