The seizure of seven acres of poppies is the largest in Canadian history
Commercial grow-ops of opium poppies are so rare in Canada that it took the RCMP some time to conclusively identify the plants growing in a field near Chilliwack, BC. But earlier this week police raided the seven acre operation and arrested two men they found tending the field. Opium is often used in heroin production but police believe this crop was intended to be used to make doda, a fine powder that produces a high when combined with hot water or tea. The plants have been disposed of and a local farmer has been contracted to deep till the field to prevent poppies from growing there again.
