Humidity, lower temperatures helping quell forest fires that have raged all summer
Firefighters who have been battling bigger than normal wildfires in British Columbia got some help from Mother Nature this weekend, and officials are hoping the change in weather means the fire season has peaked. Cool temperatures and high humidity helped downgrade evacuation warnings in some communities, and no new fires of note were started over the weekend. Reduced smoke and better visibility also meant that water bombers could again take to the air. This summer has been worse than usual for BC fires, with smoke from the blazes reportedly reaching as far as Manitoba and parts of Ontario.
