Trapped Chilean miners found alive

Story that gripped the nation for two weeks appears to have happy ending

It’s been 17 days since a mine collapsed in northern Chile, and relatives of the 33 workers trapped underground had all but given up hope of seeing them alive again. But yesterday rescue workers made contact with the miners, all of whom have apparently survived and are now living in a subterranean shelter. Yesterday Chilean President Sebastian Pinera triumphantly displayed handwritten notes from the miners and celebrations broke out across the country. Chileans had been closely following rescue efforts in the media. Rescue workers will begin lowering supplies into the shelter soon but warn it may take four months to actually free the miners.
